AMD FSR Redstone: Unlocking the Power of Radeon PC Gaming (2026)

Bold statement first: AMD’s FSR Redstone is stirring both excitement and confusion for Radeon gamers, and understanding what it really means can be a game-changer for your setup.

AMD is soft-launching its latest suite of graphics and performance-enhancing tech, branded as FSR Redstone. For newcomers, the landscape can feel a bit tangled at first glance. The good news is that in just three months, AMD has more than doubled the number of games that support the flagship machine-learning version of its upscaling technology, FSR4, bringing support to over 200 games. Even more compelling, ML-based frame generation (the controversial “fake frames”) is set to arrive for over 30 titles. You should be able to view full game lists soon on AMD’s supported games page. Both techniques can significantly boost your framerate while preserving image quality better than FSR 1, 2, or 3.

Here’s the awkward part: after previously promising that “FSR Redstone” would arrive in the second half of this year, AMD is delivering that promise mainly by integrating FSR4 into Redstone. In practice, FSR 4 is now termed “AMD FSR Upscaling (formerly AMD FSR4),” and Redstone serves as the umbrella brand for the current machine-learning product lineup.

The branding shift may stem from the fact that AMD has only one game to showcase its new FSR Ray Regeneration technology—Call of Duty: Black Ops 7—which launched with the feature last month. There are currently no games featuring FSR Radiance Caching, although AMD says developers will be able to bring it to games in 2026.

A point that can be confusing for players: you won’t see FSR Redstone (or FSR 4) options in most games by default. To access these features, you’ll need a Radeon RX 9000-series graphics card, since the machine-learning variants are exclusive to that generation. Activation takes place within the AMD Software app under Gaming > Graphics, where you enable “AMD FSR Upscaling” and/or “AMD FSR Frame Generation.” Then, inside each supported game, you enable either AMD FSR 3.1 (or occasionally 4).

The reason for per-game enabling is that the most advanced ML versions require game-by-game activation. However, AMD can automate this through the driver for games that already support FSR 3.1 or FSR 4, simplifying the process for many titles.

On a personal note, I purchased an AMD RX 9070 XT after the industry had its ups and downs with competing moves, but adoption of AMD’s latest hardware remains modest. The Steam Hardware Survey has yet to reflect widespread use of these cards, though a broader AMD Radeon graphics share has grown modestly on Steam over the past year. What changes the landscape is that the RX 9070 and 9070 XT are now commonly available at their originally promised MSRP, offering solid performance for the price. If you’re evaluating a mid-range to high-end upgrade, these cards present a compelling value proposition.

In summary, FSR Redstone marks a meaningful evolution in AMD’s upscaling and frame-generation strategy. It’s not a simple, one-click upgrade across all titles, but it promises higher framerates with better image fidelity in supported games, especially where newer ML-based features are already integrated. The roadmap touching Radiance Caching in 2026 and the expanding list of supported titles suggests this is a long-term play, not a quick patch.

What’s your take on ML-based upscaling and frame generation? Do you think these technologies will become standard enough to influence purchasing decisions, or will skepticism about “fake frames” persist among enthusiasts? Share your thoughts in the comments.
