Green Day didn't bite their tongue two days before the Super Bowl, though, when they headlined a Spotify-sponsored Super Bowl party. Onstage there, Armstrong made his usual lyric swaps as of late (singing "I’m not part of the MAGA agenda" and "the representative from Epstein Island has the floor") in addition to calling for ICE agents to resign, claiming that the current administration will "drop" them as soon as Trump's presidential term ends. This performance was a clear statement of their political views, and it sparked debate among fans and critics alike.
Green Day shared their last studio album, Saviors, in 2024. That same year, they reissued American Idiot for its 20th anniversary. The band's music has been a staple of pop-punk culture for decades, and their lyrics have always been filled with political statements.
