On Saturday, October 5, 2024, King Baridam narrowly escaped an unprovoked attack in Agbochia, Eleme Local Government Area. The incident, described by palace spokesman Prof. L. C. Micah as “an ugly affront to our peaceful coexistence,” was followed by another harrowing attempt on Sunday, January 25, 2026. While returning from a peace mission in Okwale town, the King was ambushed on the Okwale-Taabaa road, sustaining a severe thigh injury and significant blood loss. This raises a critical question: Who stands to gain from silencing a leader dedicated to harmony?
In a statement titled “One King, Several Assassination Attempts,” Prof. Micah condemned the acts as “a dastardly crime against a monarch fulfilling his duty to uphold peace.” He acknowledged the conspiracy theories swirling around the attacks, attributing them to the heated chieftaincy debates in Nyo Khana.
